Horses do it better barefoot

who we are
Primarily Hooves is a mother–daughter team dedicated to helping horses and the people who love them. What started with one horse in crisis grew into a lifelong mission: to raise the standard of hoof care and make better options accessible to every owner, no matter where they live.
Lauren and Danielle bring together decades of hands-on experience, a deep passion for healing, and the groundbreaking research of Dr. Robert Bowker. Since 2015, they have worked closely with Dr. Bowker on rehabilitation cases, with him personally evaluating their rehab horses, providing trim prescriptions, and including their work in his worldwide lectures. This ongoing mentorship continues to shape our research-backed approach and reinforces our commitment to advancing hoof care knowledge.
Together, Lauren and Danielle have created a place where science, compassion, and whole-horse thinking come together to give horses the best chance to thrive.
our story
Lauren’s journey began when her own show horse faced debilitating lameness. By rethinking traditional approaches and digging into the science of the hoof, she brought him back to soundness — and discovered a calling. Over the years, she built a reputation for taking on the “hopeless” cases: founder, navicular, laminitis. Horses others had given up on were not only returning to comfort but to full work.
Danielle grew up in the middle of this work, trimming horses alongside her mom from the time she was twelve. With a natural fascination for anatomy and function, she devoted her career to studying how hooves break down, how they heal, and how to prevent problems before they start. Today, she leads much of the educational outreach, creating resources that empower horse owners everywhere.
our philosophy
At the heart of Primarily Hooves, our philosophy is simple: every horse deserves care rooted in evidence, compassion, and respect for the whole animal. We believe lasting soundness comes from honoring both science and the horse’s lived experience — balancing proven research with thoughtful, individualized care. By combining what we’ve learned from years of hands-on rehabilitation with the insights of leading researchers, we strive to give horses a foundation for comfort, resilience, and partnership with their people. This isn’t just our work — it’s our calling, and it guides every trim, every clinic, and every conversation we share.
